Photo of a group of eight people (seven men, one woman) and a dog sitting on a bench outside. A white canvas tent is partially visible behind them. The photo is lableled in the lower left corner "Millspaugh and Gang." Two people have been identifed in ink along the bottom edge of the photo: second man from left is labeled "Frank Pettipool" and the fifth man from left is labeled "George Davis." Caption on album page: "In the Beginning" 1900 Millspaugh, California, Inyo County. 2 miners--Granddad Millspaugh--Dominique Estaborn [sp? Estabarn?]. The Pettipools were from Onyx. George "Old Man" Davis--Lou Smith. Al Millspaugh--Jessie N. Fowzer--"Cap." Jessie Pettipool took picture, she and Mama were friends. Written in a mix of blue ink and pencil on reverse: Summer 1900. 1. Miner, 2. Frank Pettipool, the Pettipools were from Onyx on the So. Fork of Kern River, 3. Grandad Millspaugh, 4. Dominique Estaborne [sp?], 5. "Old Man" Davis who owned some of the claims Al bought, 6. Lou SMith, 7. Al Millspaugh, 8. Jessie Fowzer and "Cap" the dog. Millspaugh Camp in the making 1900. For some reason I didn't get in this--probably out climbing hills--nor did the cook Miss Brice and her brother from the South--"There's a right smash heap of [illegible--lath? earth?] down yonder"--he sprung on us one day! Jessie Pettipool of the So. Fork took the picture with Lou Smith's camera--glass plates--black cloth and all!
